Templeton, California gives you a real look at Central Coast farm life: pasture-raised eggs and Highland cattle at 46 Ranch, old-vine wine tasting a few miles down the road, a Saturday morning farmers market, and a downtown steakhouse open for twenty years. Starting September 18, it also means a working ranch's pumpkin season.

What Is 46 Ranch?

46 Ranch sits on 250 acres along Santa Rosa Creek Road outside Templeton; the Dellaganna family farmed the land since the early 1900s, and in 2022 was taken over by the Winter family. Three generations run it today: soil, cattle breeding, and 600 pasture-raised hens moved to fresh pasture weekly. Eggs and produce end up at the Cambria Nursery Farmstand 17 minutes away, and Cambria Pines Lodge's kitchen cooks with the produce too. Crop rotation, rotational grazing, and a beekeeping partnership with Sierra Honey Farm keep the regenerative practices thriving.

What Animals Live at 46 Ranch?

Highland cattle are the big draw; the shaggy, long-horned Scottish breed in full-size and miniature lines. The Ranch also has Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats, babydoll sheep, chickens, rabbits, donkeys, and two livestock guardian dogs. Rotational grazing across species builds soil health.
