Pasture-Raised Eggs: Our Story of Freshness and Care

If you’ve ever picked up a carton of 46 Ranch eggs at the Cambria Nursery Farmstand, you’ve brought home more than just breakfast, you’ve brought home a story. Every egg laid on our Templeton pastures carries with it the care of a family, the health of the land, and the rhythm of a life lived close to nature.

Pasture Life
At 46 Ranch, our hens aren’t confined to cages or barns. They live the way chickens were meant to live — outdoors, free to roam, scratch, and sunbathe. Our chicken caretaker, the "Chicken Lady" has been with the flock since day one, raising them from tiny chicks to healthy, full-grown hens who now graze freely on fresh grass and insects.
Each day starts early. Feed is checked, water refreshed, and the coop cleaned. The hens follow the rising sun across the pasture, their feathers glinting in the light. By midmorning, they’ve settled into their laying boxes, producing the golden-yolked eggs that have become a favorite at the Cambria Farmstand.
“I just love being with them,” the Chicken Lady says. “They’re curious and gentle, and every one has its own personality. You really learn to care for them like family.”

Healthy Hens, Healthy Land
The hens do more than lay eggs, they’re vital members of our regenerative system. Their rotation across the fields naturally fertilizes the soil, adding nitrogen and breaking down organic matter. That means stronger grass, healthier pastures, and richer soil for future crops.
When the chickens move, the land breathes again. The cycle repeats: graze, rest, regrow; restoring vitality to the soil in ways that machines or chemicals never could. It’s a small miracle repeated every day, right underfoot.
Everything here works together. The animals feed the land, and the land feeds the animals. That balance is what keeps the ranch alive and thriving.

The Difference You Can Taste
Eggs from pasture-raised hens don’t just look different, they are different. Deep orange yolks, firmer whites, and a flavor that tastes like sunshine and grass. Studies show that pasture-raised eggs often contain more omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A and E than conventional eggs, but beyond the science, there’s a difference you can see and feel.
When eggs are gathered each afternoon, they’re cooled, packed, and delivered fresh to the Cambria Nursery Farmstand, sometimes the very next day. That short journey from pasture to stand means the eggs you buy are as fresh as they come.
A Farm That Works Together
Like everything at 46 Ranch, the egg operation is a team effort. Some focus on the animals, others on the crops, and others still on restoring the land itself. Together, each role contributes to a shared vision, one rooted in care for animals, stewardship of the soil, and connection to the local community.
For us, these eggs are more than a product. They represent a way of life grounded in purpose, guided by the seasons, and built on respect for the land that sustains us all.
Find Them Locally
You can find 46 Ranch pasture-raised eggs at the Cambria Nursery Farmstand, alongside seasonal produce, flowers, and other local goods. Each carton is a small piece of the Central Coast, gathered by hand, raised with purpose, and shared with pride.
Whether you’re baking, frying, or whisking them into a weekend breakfast, these eggs carry with them the flavor of good farming and honest work, the kind that starts before dawn and ends with the satisfaction of a well-tended pasture.
